Background
|
Founded
in 1986, LVI Services Group, Inc. (“LVI”)
is one of the nation’s leading providers of
environmental remediation services for commercial,
industrial, governmental and multi-family residential
facilities. LVI specializes in asbestos abatement,
lead paint abatement, mold remediation and other related
services. Burt Fried, LVI’s CEO, has led the
company from a small division to become the fastest
growing and the second largest competitor in this
industry with $70 million in annual revenues by 1997.

Generation’s Involvement
|
In March
1997, Generation acquired a controlling-interest in
LVI in a leveraged buyout with management. Generation
worked closely with Burt Fried and his management
team to build LVI though both organic growth and add-on
acquisitions. LVI went though a difficult period in
the late 1990’s, but we remained steadfast in
our vision and provided strategic guidance, capital
and financial expertise to help the company through
these issues and set the stage for the next phase
of growth. LVI invested heavily in systems and technologies
to speed up the flow of project information and thereby
tightly control labor costs and effectively manage
and bid on hundreds of simultaneous projects across
the United States. Even in this “industrial”
services company, Generation and management believed
that information technology was a key competitive
advantage and this proved out during the tenure of
our ownership as LVI increased margins, more than
doubled revenues and put enormous pressure on competitors
lacking these systems.

Outcome
|
LVI increased revenues to over $150 million
and became the largest company in their industry. In
fact, the former number one player in the industry went
bankrupt in part due to LVI’s superior bidding
and management capability. After a five year ownership
period, LVI was successfully sold to Blue Point Capital
Partners for a significant gain to Generation Partners
and management. Burt Fried received Generation’s
Highest Award for Achievement. The Company has continued
to prosper and revenues now exceed $250 million. LVI’s
services remove dangerous substances such as asbestos,
toxic mold and lead paint from our environment on a
large scale - they are clearly a company that is “doing
well, doing good.” We are proud to have been a
part of their success.
