Generation’s Involvement
|
Generation’s original investment was made in
September 2000, as a result of a proactive digital
media initiative, based on our belief that video
would become pervasive on the Internet. The timing
of this investment proved less than fortuitous, as
the financial and venture capital markets soon
experienced unprecedented declines.
The market for digital media products
mirrored this softness, as companies retreated from
their early Internet initiatives. During this
difficult period, Generation worked closely with
management, led by Founder and CEO Ian Blaine, to
restructure the Company and concentrate exclusively
on its digital media publishing software and
solutions. Generation maintained conviction in its
original investment thesis and continued to back the
Company through these lean years.
By
2003, Generation had become thePlatform’s largest
shareholder by investing additional capital in the
company and by buying out shareholders who had lost
patience.
Mark Jennings
served as the Chairman of the Board and John Hawkins
also served as a Director of the Company.
Over the next three years, the Company grew
at over 100% per year, and ThePlatform became a
widely recognized pioneer and leader in its
industry.
The
success of this Company is a case study on what it
means to us to be a long-term investor.
Generation develops a strong investment
thesis based on industry insight and analysis, has
the conviction to hold firm to its beliefs in the
face of difficulties, and has the force of will and
work ethic to achieve success with strong management
partners.

Comcast Corporation (NYSE: CMC) acquired
thePlatform, producing a highly successful return on
investment for Generation. This transaction was

Year” by Advertising Age Magazine, based on its
strategic importance to the industry.
